For our recent housewarming party I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion.
I had recently been inspired by a photo of a filmmaker by the name of Shane Carruth (Primer, Upstream Colour) and wanted to do my own version with a bit of the subject’s help.
Each participant chose two colours from the gel swatchbook and we built up from there. For the people who had more time, we did a little extra in the light painting realm to satisfy a craving I hadn’t filled in some time.
Here are the results. Some fun, some dark, but all done in camera with only minor exposure tweaks done in post. A fun exploration in bi-colour two flash strobist setups.
Thank you to all of my models, and let me know what you think in the comments!

My friend Jonathan and his lovely wife threw a housewarming not too long ago. Let me tell you these two know how to throw a bash and are spectacular hosts. Jonathan, being the crazy artistic, creative, bloke he seized the moment to incorporate his guests into a jazzy photo shoot. His talent continues to blow me away. So take a look-see at the awesomeness he created!
